Service Description

Freediver Certification The SSI Freediver program provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to safely participate in the recreational sport of freediving (breath-hold diving) in a pool/confined water and open water environment. Online Learning: The first step in your freediving journey will start with an online course through the MySSI App. This course will give you the information you need to join us in the classroom and the pool. Classroom Lecture: Before getting into the water, we will have a classroom session to discuss the things you learned online, examine some equipment used for freediving, and discuss other opportunities available to you after certification. After this, we will take a short exam and review together. Breathing/Stretching Session: The first practical exercise we will do is a dry land breathing session. This helps us understand relaxation, the final breath, the breath-hold, and the recovery breath. We also examine how our heart rate and blood oxygen levels respond to the breath hold. Pool Sessions: Finally, we hit the water! We become familiar with our equipment, finning, relaxation breathing, the breath-hold, and the recovery breath. (Some classes take place completely in the lake and comprise 4-6 lake sessions) Open Water: Once we wrap up our pool sessions, we head to the lake! Here we will have a fun dive to warm us up for the day and after a short break, we’ll break out the buoy and line and start to build some depth into our dives! Finally, we’ll work through our skill checks and get you certified as a Freediver!
